Cooking and Baking in Southern Italy
One of the best opportunities to have while in a foreign country is to be able to completely immerse yourself into their culture. Being able to make authentic pizza with an actual Italian chef was so cool. We always thought that you just made the dough and turned it into pizza, however there’s more to it, which we were happy to find out. Our favorite part of it was being able to make it our own by kneading our own dough and putting the toppings on to our liking.
Another opportunity we had to immerse ourselves in their culture was making a classic dessert, tiramisu. As a group we all did a different step in the process of making the dessert. We always thought that tiramisu was a very complicated dessert to make, however the process is actually very simple. And just after a very simple and quick process of mixing together sugar, egg yolks, cream, and mascarpone cheese, the amazing dessert was ready.
Making both the pizza and the tiramisu were great, fun ways to submerge myself in the culture and we’re very happy that we got the chance to experience them.
