My First Day in Madrid

Image

The following post was contributed by Veronica Blascoe, who is participating in the Malaga 1 program.

A few days ago, the thirteenth of June, we were dragged from our beds at what was (to me) an obscenely early hour! After breakfast, we were guided through the city of Madrid on a walking tour, beginning at the palace and ending at the Prado Museum.
Our guide took us through the streets and alleys of Madrid, pausing often to discuss statues or symbols and share fascinating bits of historical trivia. We stopped at a market and most of us stopped to purchase some sort of snack. We met up with another guide and he escorted us through, pointing out several interesting works and spending quite a while discussing Las Meninas, by Velazquez. We finished the tour very hungry but happy to have gone on it!
